Tatas Tales/Los Cuentos de las Tatas: Breast Cancer Survivor Stories & Theatre

This arts-based research (Barone et al 2011; Levy 2020; Tian 2023) paper presentation shares the process journey of Tatas Tales/Los Cuentos de las Tatas, a generative theatre initiative based on the facilitated creative writing and communities of both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking breast-cancer survivor groups across a US city. These creative writing groups represent a nexus of racial, age, cultural, socio-economic, and geographical identities gathered around tables in clinical and non-profit settings united by breast cancer. The paper session will overview highlights of the project elements: creative poetry sessions, an adapted playscript process, and an emerging applied theatre nurse-education module development project. Evolving since 2018, this Tatas Tales/Los Cuentos de las Tatas paper offers an analysis of past and future programming and partnerships, and invites global partnership with attendees.
